Back to School

in

Today was a day of firsts: Andy's first day of Kindergarten, Carol's first day as the new broadcast journalism teacher at Frisco Centennial High School, and - two outta three ain't bad - Mitch's first sick day of the year. :(

Mitch, after missing only a day-and-a-half of school last year - and even that was late in the Spring semester - developed a fever on Sunday night. Andy had the same symptoms a few days earlier, so they're passing something between each other. Coupled with Carol's first day at Centennial and the fact that I'm in week three of my new job at Telligent, this could have been a big problem if not for a great program at Plano Presbyterian Hospital called "Coughs and Cuddles" - a drop-in daycare for sick kids. It was hard for us to leave Mitch there, but after talking to him it was obvious that he had a good time there. I spoke to him shortly after lunch this afternoon and he said, "this place is great! The nurses are all nice to me and they have a computer and a GameCube and I can watch movies..." When I asked him if he'd rather be at school, Mitch said "yeah, but this place is nice, too." So that made us feel better. He'll be back at it in no time.

Carol and Andy both had good first days, though - be sure to check out the pictures from Andy's day at the link in the first paragraph - but it will be better when we have three Grosses in the Frisco school system on a daily basis.

Postscript: Mitch is back in the saddle again

...and we're fairly confident that he will catch up with the rest of the class quickly after missing the first two days of second grade. Let's hope he can run the table for the rest of the school year.
